The savage brutality of the Japanese militarist aggressors inflicted unspeakable calamity upon the Chinese people, stirring the indomitable resistance of the sons and daughters of the Chinese nation. The September 18th Incident became the start of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and heralded the opening of the World Anti-Fascist War. The July 7th Incident became the beginning of China’s nationwide resistance, thereby establishing the Eastern Theatre as a principal front in the World Anti-Fascist War. Under the banner of the Anti-Japanese National United Front, initiated and established by the Communist Party of China, fighting the war of blood to the end and the war of resistance to the end with the aggresses became the shared resolve of the Chinese people. Whether on the front lines or behind enemy lines, patriotic soldiers faced death with unwavering resolve and people from all walks of life united in their hatred of the enemy. At the same time, the path ahead will not be entirely smooth sailing; we must be prepared to pass major tests of high winds and rough seas, and even surging waves. We must maintain strategic composure, uphold unwavering confidence in victory, vigorously promote the great spirit of patriotism and the great spirit of the War of Resistance, and preserve the heroic spirit of ‘the more press forward the more dangerous’. With the resolve and courage to overcome all difficulties without being overwhelmed by them, dare to struggle and excel in innovation, striding with head held high along the self-chosen path, always firmly grasping the destiny of our nation’s development and progress in our own hands.

The Chinese nation has always cherished peace, and Chinese-style modernisation is a modernisation that follows the path of peaceful development. Since modern times, despite repeated invasion, humiliation, and plunder by imperialist powers, the Chinese people have not learned the robber’s logic of the weak preying upon by the strong, but have become even more resolute in their determination to uphold peace. China possesses no genes for hegemony or domination; it has always regarded safeguarding world peace and opposing hegemonism and power politics as its sacred duty. As world’s epochal change accelerates, we must transcend divisions and conflicts with broad-mindedness, and care for the destiny of humankind with a spirit of universal compassion. No matter how the international situation evolves, and no matter what stage China’s development reaches, China will remain a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a defender of the international order.

With the strong leadership of the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, with the scientific guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for the New Era, with the distinct advantages of the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and with the combined resolve and united mind of hundreds of millions of people, there is no force that can halt the resolute strides of the Chinese nation towards great rejuvenation. We shall continue to enrich and develop new forms of human civilisation, advance the building of a community of common destiny for humanity, and work together with people from all countries to forge a brighter future for the world.
